The Firebirds Soccer Club, an Illinois not-for-profit
corporation, is a traveling soccer organization based in
Lombard, Illinois, with the following mission:
-
The Firebirds Soccer Club will provide a quality
environment in a competitive atmosphere for those
children and young adults who are willing to
dedicate their time and effort to the game of
soccer;
-
The Firebirds Soccer Club will emphasize the
integrity of the game, exemplified by the utmost
good sportsmanship; and
-
The Firebirds Soccer Club
will respect the people and the property of our own
Firebirds communities, and those communities to
which we travel.
The Firebirds have Boys and Girls traveling soccer teams
ranging from U-9 (under 9 years old) to U-19 (High
School).
Firebirds' teams are coached by volunteer adults and
professional trainers. Most of the volunteer coaches
are parents of children in the club. A typical team
will have a head coach, one or two assistant coaches,
and a team manager. The team manager assists the
coaches in organizing team events, collecting fees, and
scheduling. All sideline coaches are licensed by the
Illinois Youth Soccer Association. Background checks
are made on the coaches each season. Professional
trainers from
Soccer Success
are hired by the Firebirds to work with the
children to develop their soccer skills. The trainers
lead one practice session for each team each week during
the season. The trainers are from Scotland and England
and are part of a professional soccer training agency.
Many of these trainers also played Pro Soccer in their
home countries. In addition to weekly sessions with each
Firebirds team, the trainers run periodic clinics (such
as goalkeeping) designed to develop specific skills.
The Firebirds are affiliated
with the Lombard Park District. Boys teams compete in
the Northern Illinois Soccer League (NISL), while the
girls team participate in the Illinois Women's Soccer
League (IWSL). Both leagues and all Firebirds players
are affiliated with the Illinois Youth Soccer
Association. The Firebirds Soccer Club is
comprised of volunteers who perform services on behalf
of the Soccer Club and parents or guardians of players
registered with the Firebirds. Members meet on a
regular basis to discuss matters involving the Club.
The Firebirds Soccer Club is overseen by a volunteer
five-person Board of Directors, who are elected by the
Members.
